About the event
Each year we host an event that is open to the public at our visitors center to honor the life and legacy of Malcolm X. We often collaborate with local Black Studies departments to host forums, art competitions and performances on this day. Here is the schedule for May 19th - a full day for the whole family!
May 19th - 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM | Black History 101 Mobile Museum Exhibit
Founded by Khalid el-Hakim, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum is a an award winning collection of over 7,000 original artifacts of Black memorabilia dating from the trans-Atlantic slave trade era to hip-hop culture. Khalid has been called the "Schomburg of the Hip-Hop generation" because of his passionate commitment to carry on the rich tradition of the Black Museum Movement. The Black History 101 Mobile Museum has traveled to 32 states visiting over 300 institutions including colleges, K-12 schools, corporations, conferences, libraries, museums, festivals, religious institutions, and cultural events.
A POWERFUL Black History presentation will conclude this event at 2 p.m. on May 19th.

A celebration of the life of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz. Malcolm X. This is a free event. Bring the kids!
A full day of activities with performances, plus a kids corner on the outside pavilion. Black History 101 Mobile Museum will host a special presentation at 2 p.m. inside at the Visitor's Center. The lecture will be given by the Black History 101 Mobile Museum Curator, Khalid El Hakim.
OUTSIDE: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. - LIVE PERFORMANCES BY BUDDI3 DA GAWD, SCKY REI, AND BIG WADE AND THE BLACK SWAN THEORY.
