Summer Recap 2022

Updated: Feb 1, 2023

We witnessed some talented youth this summer as they learned for six weeks about sustainable communities through the Build-A-Hut competition in partnership with Aqua Africa & UNL's 4-H Extension team! The students worked with professionals in the fields of engineering, construction, solar energy and architecture to develop models of huts similar to what is built in South Sudanese communities. We want to also thank Emerging Ladies Academy for partnering with us to bring this special experience to our North Omaha youth!

Malcolm X Opera

The Malcolm X Opera is back! If you didn't know, it was originally produced in 1986 in New York by Anthony, Thulani Davis and Christopher Davis. exposing the inspiring life of Malcolm X to a new audience. This year, a few opera houses collaborated to commission its return to include The Detroit Opera House, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Seattle Opera, yet again sharing Malcolm's story in a special stage performance to include our very own Opera Omaha! Tickets are available for showtimes in the first week of November. In collaboration, the Malcolm X Memorial Foundation is hosting a series of events leading up to the opera to educate the community and further engage local activists, creatives, cultural workers and historians; Those that are so often overlooked in their contribution to the Black experience especially. Future details will be shared as we finalize more but we encourage you to save the date and we look forward to seeing you!
